Rue Meynadier
October 9th, 2006Avoiding the bustle of the city, Rue Meynadier is a charming, quiet street that links the new town and the old town (Le Suquet). This lovely stretch has retained some of the relaxed air of Cannes’ past, and it is a wonderful place for tourists to visit. The street is home to some beautiful 18th century doorways and pretty buildings. Rue Meynadier is dotted with numerous delightful shops, selling lovely speciality goods, ideal for gifts, or simply for visitors to spoil themselves. There are also numerous cosy cafes where visitors can relax and enjoy some local cuisine.

Located to the south of Cannes, the town of Cogolin is a wonderful destination for anyone hoping to escape the activity of the city, and enjoy some traditional French hospitality. The town is home to a population of less than 10,000 inhabitants, and it is famed for its stunning views and delicious wine. The town is also renowned for the numerous artisans, who sell wonderful goods such as clarinets, woven carpets and furniture. This picturesque village rests at the foot of a lovely tower and an ancient mill.
Coaraze
October 4th, 2006Anyone visiting Cannes should take some time to visit the Coaraze area to the north of the city. The village of Coaraze boasts beautifully restored medieval buildings, many of which are occupied by the talented local craftsmen. The village is dotted with beautiful squares and pretty terraced gardens. Throughout the year, villagers celebrate a number of festivals, including the Fete de St Jean towards the end of June and the Chestnut Festival at the end of October.
Chapelle St-Sauveur
October 3rd, 2006For visitors to Cannes who want to explore some of the history and culture of the area, a trip to the Chapelle St-Sauveur is an absolute must. Located outside the city in the peaceful area of La Cannet, the chapel was built in the 15th century. Decorated with lovely polychrome mosaics, the Chapelle St-Sauveur also features stunning stained-glass windows. Within the chapel, visitors should take some time to explore the lovely Musee Tobiasse, which features mosaics and wood panels.
The Musee de la Castre
September 29th, 2006The Musee de la Castre is located in the Old Cannes Castle, which was built during the 11th and 12th centuries by Lerins monks. The museum is home to wonderful collections of archaeology and ethnography from across the world. The Musee de la Castre features the lovely Cistercian Chappelle Ste-Anne, which houses temporary exhibitions. The charming 12th century Tour du Suquet, is home to photographic exhibitions, and it acts as a wonderful viewing tower, with panoramic views across the city. The museum is open everyday except Monday, and it is closed throughout November.
Corniche du Var

This picturesque stretch clings to the hillside overlooking the beautiful River Var. This charming area boasts stunning views of both the river valley and the Nice hinterland. The lovely slopes of the Corniche du Var are dotted with olive groves and flower fields, and this is a wonderful area in which to spot the shy local wildlife.
Allees de la Liberte

Close to the Old Port, Allees de la Liberte is a lovely area to visit for anyone hoping to enjoy Cannes’ quieter side.
St-Michel-Archange Russian Orthodox Church
September 20th, 2006The large and beautiful Eglise Orthodoxe Russe St-Michel-Archange, is probably the most unusual church in the city of Cannes. It is a Russian Orthodox Church, which was built for Empress Maria Alexandrovna, wife of Czar Alexandre III. Building of the church was overseen by local architect Nouveau, and it was opened in November 1894. probably the most striking feature of Eglise Orthodoxe Russe St-Michel-Archange is the lovely, blue, onion-shaped dome, which bears three crosses. The church’s choir is famed for its wonderful performances.
The Musee Renoir
September 17th, 2006Located just outside Cannes in the picturesque town of Cagnes-sur-Mer, the wonderful Musee Renoir is well worth a visit. The museum is located in the artist’s former home, and his living area and two studios have been lovingly preserved. The Musee Renoir is home to some stunning examples of the artist’s work; ten of his canvases and a number of his later sculptures are on display. The museum is located in beautifully maintained gardens, perfect for an afternoon picnic.
Quartier de la Californe
September 15th, 2006For anyone with an interest in architecture, a visit to the lovely Quartier de la Californe is a must. Located to the east of the Old Town in Cannes, this area is home to beautiful 19th century villas, many of which are decorated with charming, whimsical features. Some of the more extravagant examples of this unusual architecture include: Moorish minarets, turrets and pagodas. Although many of the structures in Quartier de la Californe are private residences, most can be seen from the street.
