This lovely, tree-lined square is surrounded by charming cafes and small shops, and it is always home to locals playing a leisurely game of petanque. Early in the morning, the square comes alive with colour, as it is home to a beautiful flower market. St-Michel-Archange Russian Orthodox Church

The large and beautiful Eglise Orthodoxe Russe St-Michel-Archange, is probably the most unusual church in the city of Cannes. It is a Russian Orthodox Church, which was built for Empress Maria Alexandrovna, wife of Czar Alexandre III. Building of the church was overseen by local architect Nouveau, and it was opened in November 1894. probably the most striking feature of Eglise Orthodoxe Russe St-Michel-Archange is the lovely, blue, onion-shaped dome, which bears three crosses. The church’s choir is famed for its wonderful performances.

The Musee Renoir

Quartier de la Californe

For anyone with an interest in architecture, a visit to the lovely Quartier de la Californe is a must. Located to the east of the Old Town in Cannes, this area is home to beautiful 19th century villas, many of which are decorated with charming, whimsical features. Some of the more extravagant examples of this unusual architecture include: Moorish minarets, turrets and pagodas. Although many of the structures in Quartier de la Californe are private residences, most can be seen from the street.


Le Suquet

Although the city of Cannes is famed for its glamour, the city also boasts numerous beautiful historical areas, which are well worth a visit. One such area is the Old Town, known locally as Le Suquet. This beautiful area is built on the site of the former Canoïs castrum, resting on the slopes of Mont Chevalier. The Place de la Castre is encircled by a defensive wall, and it is the location of the lovely Notre Dame d’Esperance, which is built in a Provençal Gothic style. Le Suquet also boasts a charming bell tower, which features a terrace with a stunning view of the city.


Ile Ste-Marguerite

For anyone looking to take a quick break from the bustle of the city, the beautiful Ile Ste-Marguerite is the perfect location for a relaxing day in lovely surroundings. The island is the largest of the three Lerin Islands, just fifteen minutes by boat from the centre of Cannes. The Ile Ste-Marguerite boasts some stunning scenery such as impressive pines, rocky inlets and sandy beaches. This charming, car-free island also boasts a 17th century fort that was used as a lookout for pirate ships. The fort also operated as a prison, and it was the home of the legendary ‘Man in the Iron Mask’.
