Tour of the Islands off Cannes

There are two islands off Cannes, called the Saint Honorat and the Sainte Marguerite, which are just one kilometre southeast of La Croisette. There are many shuttle boats going to and fro the whole day leaving from the old port. It will take about 20 minutes to reach the islands and you can also cross over to the other island while there. One can swim around the islands as well as do a little diving in the crystal clear waters. Sainte Marguerite has a huge forest and lots of picnic areas. There is also a Maritime museum here with an archaeological collection from the land and sea, and its set in an old state prison, which was in use up to the 1890s.

This is the setting of Alexander Dumas famous novel. Saint Honorat is the smaller of the islands and belongs to a Cistercian monastery where one can visit. 30 monks live here on the land, making honey, liquors and wines, which are on sale here. There is also a museum with paintings and relics, as well as a church in the monastery.
