MUSEUMS AND GALLERIES IN CANNES

Cannes will also satisfy your desire for culture. There is a handful of museums in the centre of the town, and although there are not many, the museums that are here, are of a very high standard. When walking down the Boulevard de la Croisette, which is lovely, stroll around the Malmaison, which was a former private residence as well as a former lavish casino and is well worth having a look inside, which features a beautiful art exhibition, and when inside, you can admire the lovely sea views from the windows. Another Museum that is fantastic is the Muese de la Castre, which stands on the top of the hill called le Suquet, just above the old town. The museum has a fantastic panoramic view of Cannes and its surroundings. The museum has a great collection of musical instruments from all over the globe.

It also focuses on Mediterranean archaeology from around Cannes, on the land and from the Sea. Nextdoor is the Notre Dame church de l'Esperance, where locals make plaques and thank the Virgin Mary for all their prayers that were answered. The island of Saint Marguerite has an actual prison where the well known Iron Mask was kept captive without a trial by the king of France Louis XIV. It is still a mystery, who he was to this day.

Maybe an unknown brother to the King? Could he have known that Louis XIV was not able to have children? Many books have speculated about this. The Maritime Museum is located here on the island and has lots of special nautical pieces on display. Do not leave the island without seeing the lovely Roman frescoes here. There are also a good few Art Galleries in Cannes that are full of top class paintings. The Galerie de Cannes, the Galerie Alexandre Leandouze as well as the Atelier Bernard Payet all are very well worth a visit.
